Welcome to Owen County "where community matters." Owen County, consisting of 351 square miles, is located entirely within the boundaries of I-75, I-71 and I-64. We are less than a one hour drive from Lexington, Louisville and Cincinnati, Ohio. If you love the outdoors, Owen County is for you! We offer a wealth of natural beauty with numerous lakes, streams and rolling ridges providing some of the highest quality fishing and hunting opportunities in the Commonwealth.
The Kentucky River borders the entire western boundary of our county with nearly 30 miles of shoreline and such sights as Horse Shoe Bend, which can be viewed from Highway 355 between the towns of Gratz and Perry Park. Eagle Creek, the world's longest creek, flows through Owen County creating some of the most beautiful sights in the county. Elmer Davis Lake and Kleber Wildlife Area, both managed by Kentucky Fish and Wilflife, provide some of the best bluegill and crappie fishing and hunting in the state.
Owen County is also home of many attractions. Fairway Golf Course is an 18 hole course in the town of Wheatley and Glenwood Hall Country Club, a 27 hold course is located in the resort of Perry Park. Kentucky's largest winery, Elk Creek Vineyards, hosts a gourmet deli, gift shop, wine making tours and sets next to Elk Creek Hunt Club, one of Kentucky's best sporting clay ranges and hunting facilities.
Other great places to visit are Ayres Family Orchard, Hazelwood Farms and Larkspur Press. These vendors are also a part of the Owen County Farmers' Market. The market is open every Friday in May through November from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the market facility behind the Owen County Farm Bureau office on Highway 127 North.
We extend a warm welcome to our home and encourage you to visit Owen County throughout the year, because "community truly matters" to us. We hope you will love it as much as we do!
